Founded in Shaolin Gramam, Thrissur, Kerala — JKS India was born out of a deep passion for martial arts and a vision to make authentic Shotokan Karate accessible to all.
JKS India – Shaolin Academy began in Shaolin Gramam, Mullassery, Thrissur, as a place where the rigorous traditions of Japanese Shotokan would meet the dedication of Indian students.
At the heart of this journey is Thomas Vithayathil Antony Nainan, a 5th Dan Black Belt certified by JKS Japan. Through years of dedication, he has carried authentic karate from the headquarters in Tokyo into dojos across the Gulf and India — staying true to its traditional roots while making it meaningful for modern students.
Today, the academy continues to grow its branch network, with the founding dojo in Thrissur as its headquarters and central training hub.
JKS — Japan Karate Shoto Federation — is a worldwide Shotokan Karate organization headquartered in Tokyo. Founded by Tetsuhiko Asai Shuseki Shihan following his separation from the JKA, the federation preserves and advances the traditional spirit of Shotokan.
"The ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants."
Students are taught to sharpen not only their techniques but their 心 (kokoro) — heart and mind. Every strike, every stance is imbued with 鍛錬 (Tanren): the forging of both spirit and body.
